Video of Egypt

For Adara's graduation, we took a trip to Egypt the end of May and beginning of June, 2008. Dave, Miriam, and Adara went, while the boys stayed home.

There are two people in this movie that you might not recognize. One is our private guide, Ache, who traveled with us for the entire two weeks. He is a native Egyptian with a master's in Egyptology, working on his doctoral thesis. He was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. The other new face is Myra, our adopted Jewish Grandmother from NYC who was the only other person in our group besides the three of us. Both became part of our family for a short time.

Things to watch for:

You will see a mosque with scaffolding. If you listen, you can hear the call to prayer across the Nile which woke us each morning at 4:10 a.m. and was heard no matter where you are in Egypt several times a day.

There a couple of photos on and in our cruise ship which we were on for seven days. For the last two days we had that entire ship to our little family, Ache, and Myra. We had dozens of staff members catering to our every whim! We felt like billionaires.

Notice the way people live so primitively along the Nile. They pump water for crops using Ox and travel by donkey cart. For some reason I didn't capture any mounted police on camel this time, but that was common as well.

All of the temples and tombs and museums were so much more spectacular in real life than as captured here, but we hope you enjoy this little representation of a trip that was truly unique and rich with culture.
