Miriam graduated from grad school, past her licensing exams and is now working as a Medical Social Worker for IHC at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. She also does some work at TOSH and Alta View Hospitals as well.
Her job consists of doing counseling with people who are dying, or have lost a loved one or have to decide to withdraw life support from a family member. She works with people who have had suicide attempts, rape victims, victims of homicide attempts, victims of domestic violence, people who are recovering from losing limbs, have PTSD from trauma, have been given news of a terminal illness, and more. She also helps with discharge planning: getting people home health once they leave the hospital or into skilled nursing facilities, working with the homeless who come into the hospital to find resources once they leave, finding funding for those who have no money to pay their hospital bills, setting up help for those who have problems with substance abuse or addiction. It's a very stressful and intense job, and she sees all kinds of pain and suffering and horrible things. But it's also a very satisfying job where she can meet people from all walks of life, reach out and help a few people through some very vulnerable and difficult times.
